I'd like to speak for the old beachboys, the Kings of Waikiki Beach - the one that are gone now... they were all dear friends of Don Ho, before he became the consumate intertainer. Steamboat, Chick Daniels, Panama Dave, Blue Makua, Mudd Werner,

Watanabe, Richard Taylor, Bobby Krewson, just to name a few - they're all out there, resting in peace outside Canoes at Waikiki. Those were the days of the Royal, the Moana and the Surfrider. Don was a great surfer-we all surfed Waikiki when it was first break and drank beer at the MerryGoRound Bar next to the old Waikiki Sands - those were the days at Hale Au Au - the Golden Days.....We'll miss you dearly and soon we will all surf first break again.....Aloha dear, dear friend.

To the wonderful Ho 'ohana my heart goes out to you. Days on Lanikai beach are fondest of memories; we drank, swam, watched the keiki play and ate Hawaiian food. Da bess. Don helped many get started and incouraged others to keep at it. Don Ho,you'll be missed. God bless you. aloha a hui hou.

I was home (to Hawaii) for R&R from Vietnam, and before flying to Kona, took in his show at Duke Kahanamouku's ... and darn if Don got me a date -- right on stage! Had us dance ...... then invited us to stay for the after show party! That was Don Ho back in 1969!

Mike Smart: I remember going to Hawaii every summer when I was a kid 16, 17, 18, 19' 20 1975 - 1980 and hanging out with Carl Carlson Don's sound man in the booth every night all summer, Carl sort of took me under his wing and taught me it was the best times of my life then after the show I would go hang out in the green room and poor champagne for Dons Guests, I remember Willie Boy and Saro Dons body guards and Willie Senior and Angel and Sam, Pattie and Liz, and T Joe they all treated me like Family I would give anything to relive those days again I loved Barry Whites loves theme at the opening of the show the lights would dim Sam would come out first act and everybody always thought it was Don I would be sitting in the booth and Carl would grap the phone and call Don 7pm sharp every night Don would always take time out for me and talk to me, he really cared about people what an incredible and generous man he was and he was the coolest dude around hands down those were truly magical times, God Bless you All!!!
Mike Smart: And I remember Carl and Crew every night between shows down stairs hanging out at the Islander Coffee Shop I was always hungry and Carl would always buy me something to eat, I would love to see Carl again after 40 years he always had great stories he was a big inspiration in my young life I would love to be able to tell him Thank you!!

Don Ho brought the Spirit of Hawaii to people all over the world. His music, performed in such a way that all could relate; in such a style and manner that drew people to him and the Hawaiian Islands.
His audiences were literally part of his show! Don invariably would have people (Kane’s, Wahine’s and especially Keiki’s -- men, ladies and especially children) come up to the stage and “talk story” with him, then sing and dance and just have a memorable time with uncle Don …. Memories that stayed with them forever. He would sing about the islands of Hawaii; of the love of the land; of the love of the people; and speak of the goodness, the history of such paradise in the middle of the pacific
